DEPARTMENT HISTORY

  1.  Functioning Since 2004.
  2. Post graduation in paediatrics has been started from 2014 with intake of 2 Post graduates per year.
  3. In 2016, Human Milk bank has been established.
  4. Post graduate seat has been increased to 6 Post graduates per year from 2017.
  5. Now functioning with established Tertiary New born care unit, Paediatric intensive care unit, Child friendly Paediatric ward, District early intervention centre serving paediatric population from the Theni district and adjoining districts of Kerala.

CME on ENT Emergencies in Paediatrics

The Dept. of Paediatrics & IAP Theni (TCB) Branch organized a CME on “ENT Emergencies in Paediatrics”.

 The programme began with IAP prayer and lighting of Kuthu Vilakku by our Dean, VP, Professors and Associates professors

Our HOD Dr. Selvakumar welcomed the gathering, followed by speaker introduction by Dr. Vasanthamalar.


 Dean Dr. Muthuchitra Madam delivered an excellent lecture on ear, nose, throat and upper airway emergencies in children, highlighting early clues and prompt management.

The session was attended by MS sir , VP Mam, faculties from Paediatrics, ENT, other departments .

  100 UG  final students & Paediatric postgraduates actively participated 

Dean Madam was honoured with a memento by IAP President Dr. Ramasamy. 

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by IAP Secretary Dr. Jagadeesh.
 

ACHIEVEMENTS:

Committed to patient care and medical education department of paediatrics Govt Theni medical college has achieved so many laurels and appreciations so for. Some of them to highlight are as follows  

  1. Bone Marrow Transplantation Has Been Done For six Thalassemia Cases by collaborating with transplantation centre in Chennai.
  2. Our Human Milk bank staff received state level appreciation for effective collection and distribution of large amount of human milk bank in 2016.
  3.  Breast feeding week celebration has been conducted every year in grand manner with outreach programmes involving post graduates, MBBS Under graduate, Nursing students, Arts college and School Students.
  4. Conducting gold medal examination for Under graduate students every year.
  5. Conducting  IAP Quiz for Under graduate students every year.
  6. Three Cases of GULLIAN BARRIE SYNDROME has been under mechanical ventilator for prolonged of period 100days,70days and more than A month respectively and successfully discharged. This was reported and appreciated by various media showcasing over effective intensive care.
  7. Dr. Kirthiga (Senior Assistant Professor) was faculty for IAP state PEDICON 2021-Pondicherry and 2024 Tirunelveli and Dr. Reghupathy (Senior Assistant Professor) was faculty for IAP state paediatrics conference 2020 Madurai and 2023 Kanyakumari.
  8. Conducted CME- CBC 6th vital with Tamilnadu MGR medical university accreditation in 2020.
  9. Conducted CME Theni PEDIA with Tamilnadu medical Council accreditation on June 2024.
  10. Paper Presentation in Tamil Nadu IAP - State PEDICON August 2024 Topic: Acute liver failure and atypical manifestations in children with Acute Viral Hepatitis - A by Dr. Jayadharini Post graduate.
  11. Third price for Poster Presentation in Annual Clinical Enrichment Series February 2025 at Madurai. Topic - Mowat Wilson Syndrome by Dr. Sowmiya Post graduate.
